Membership Fee Regulations
(according to § 6 No. 1 Articles of Association)
1. Principles
These Membership Fee Regulations set out the membership fees and according rules for the "Association Confederation of Open Access Repositories" (COAR). They are not part of the Articles of the Association. Changes to the regulations are subject to decisions of the General Assembly.
2. Decisions
The rate of the respective membership fees shall be set by the General Assembly (§ 6 No. 1 Articles of Association).
3. Annual Fees
- Single Members: The annual fee for a single Full Member is 2.500 €.
- Group Fees: The annual fee for Groups depends on the size of the Group; the minimum fee equals a single full membership fee, that is 2.500 €, with a maximum of a double single full membership fee, that is 5.000 € per annum.

Group Consortia, i.e. groups with more than 10 members, pay a fee according to their size with a minimum of 5.000 € and a maximum of 25.000 € per annum.

- Responsibilities for Payments: Single Full Members are responsible for payments themselves. According to § 3 No. 2.2 c) Articles of Association), a Group nominates a Coordinating Partner who is entitled to enter into a contract with COAR and act on behalf of the participants, having appropriately established relations with the said participants in order to define its role and the payments due from each. The Coordinating Partner undertakes responsibility for full payment of the Group’s combined COAR membership fee.
- Tax: The Association exclusively pursues not‐for‐profit common public interest objectives in terms of the clause “Steuerbegünstigte Zwecke” (Purposes with Tax Benefits), under the German Tax Code (§ 2 No. 2 Articles of Association). Based on this, COAR will request tax exemption by the Göttingen tax office.

5. Termination of Membership
Termination of membership is only possibly according to § 5 of the Articles of the Association.
6. Entry into Force
The rate and the principles of the Membership Fees set out in these regulations have been decided by the General Assembly on March 2, 2010, and come into force with immediate effect.

Groups decide on the distribution of costs within the Group. The following tables provide a few examples.
