Petition for open access to scientific journal articles arising from taxpayer-funded research

The U.S. based initiative access2research (http://access2research.org/) has launched a petition calling for public support for expansion of the NIH public access policy across al U.S. Federal Science Agencies. The petition is posted to the White House’s “We the People” site: https://wwws.whitehouse.gov/petitions/!/petition/require-free-access-over-internet-scientific-journal-articles-arising-taxpayer-funded-research/wDX82FLQ.

COAR encourages its members and the broader community to consider signing the petition. If they can collect 25,000 signatures before June 19, it will be reviewed by White House staff, and considered for action. The petition has already received over 20,000 signatures in the first two weeks. You don’t need to be a U.S. citizen to sign – signatures can come from inside or outside the US. All you need is a valid e-mail address and create an account.
