COAR e.V.

The aim of COAR is to enhance the visibility, reliability, and impact of research outputs through a global network of open repositories based on international collaboration and interoperability. The Stichting COAR exclusively pursues not‐for‐profit common public interest objectives.

COAR e.V. was founded in 2009 and is hosted by Göttingen State and University Library.

Strategic Directions

Five strategic directions guide COAR’s activities:

  1. Advocate for the important role of a distributed, international network of open repositories in advancing open science and bibliodiversity
  2. Provide support for strengthening and modernizing repositories and repository networks
  3. Promote alignment and interoperability across repositories, repository networks, and between repositories and other systems and services
  4. Define and advance the adoption of new behaviours, technologies and roles for repositories and their interaction with other value added services
  5. Increase the sustainability and effectiveness of the organization and strengthen the COAR brand

The Stichting COAR (COAR Foundation) is registered with the Netherlands Chamber of Commerce – CCI Number: 89809165

The Stichting COAR was created on April 3, 2023 in accordance with the Netherlands Civil Code (Art. 2:285 et seq.). It has its seat in Amsterdam.

The Stichting COAR was set up to continue the aims and mission of COAR e.V. beginning in 2025.

Directors shall not receive remuneration. The board may resolve that directors shall be reimbursed for the expenses incurred by them in the performance of their duties, with due consideration of the ANBI requirements.

Work Plan

Each year, the COAR Executive Board will develop a work plan, which will be published in January.

Financial Statements
