Towards a global knowledge commons

Kathleen Shearer is new Executive Director at COAR

COAR welcomes Kathleen Shearer as new Executive Director starting 1 June 2013. A native of Canada, Kathleen has been a founding person of COAR and has been very active building up Working Group 1 “Repository Content” and other COAR activities such as the international Task Force on Licenses Agreements. She has extensive experience with Open Access advocacy, policy and repository activities.

We are glad to have Kathleen as Executive Director, while also continuing to work part-time with the Canadian Association of Research Libraries.

At the same time Alicia López Medina stepped down from the position Executive Director of COAR in order to continue her work as Director of Digital Services at her Library at UNED. Alicia has served as Executive Director of COAR for one year. During this time she has worked passionately to make COAR a global network, setting up connections all over the world, especially with colleagues in Latin America, and introduced the Repository Observatory as a key activity in COAR.

We warmly welcome Kathleen as Executive Director, and thank Alicia for her enthusiastic and fruitful service to COAR.
